GUWAHATI: A lecture series on the topic 'All Life is Yoga' is being organised on June 2, June 9 and June 16 at the Gauhati University campus.

According to a press release, the lecture series is a part of 15-day Yoga Workshop being organized by GU NSS Cell in association with Vivekananda Kendra, which will culminate with celebration of International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2022.

The inaugural day's programme was inaugurated by Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice-Chancellor of GU. He said that Yoga is a means of keeping body and mind healthy and India is leading the whole world in Yoga. Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS, NE Region, also attended the programme and said that Yoga is a Sadhana which keeps our physical and mental health sound. Dr HK Nath, Registrar of GU, while attending the programme, said that Yoga is a part of our rich heritage and an essential tool for keeping ourselves healthy and aware of ourselves. Diganta Biswa Sarma, follower of Sri Ram Krishna, Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo, Sahitya Academy awardee in translation who is the Key Resource Person for the lecture series for three days, said that Yoga is not only Asana and Pranayam but part of numerous other types of Yoga. He said that Yoga is not therapeutic science but the heart of spirituality. Yoga is essentially a generic name for the process and the result of processes. Transcending, shredding our present being of mode to transforming to a new, higher & wider sense of consciousness.

Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, DSW, GU said that Yoga embodies unity of mind and body and could be used as an instrument of development for self-growth and society as a whole. Dr Kakati said that Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. About 200 participants comprising of NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, students and members of GU fraternity attended the programme.
