GUWAHATI: Niroo Barooah passes away in New Delhi on January. She was 91 years old.

Niroo Barooah was a lecturer at D.R. College in Golaghat, before graduating with a master's degree in philosophy from Gauhati University in 1955.

Barooah was wife of Late Mihir Kanta Barooahwho was the well-known IPS officer as well as a noted storyteller of the 'Ramdhenu' era. During her time in Delhi, she was a prominent Assamese news reader on Akashbani radio in New Delhi from the 1970s until the mid-1990s. Niroo Barooah's affable and humble, reticent and polite demeanor impacted everyone who came into contact with her. She left behind her oldest daughter MeenakshiArumugam and her husband, a well-known cinematographer M S Arumugam, grandson Rughav Arumugam, and a large family.
