Left Organizations Protest Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB)

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Under the joint appeal of the Left and Democratic organizations of the State, over hundreds of people came in protest at Guwahati Club on Friday, demanding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) to be scrapped.

The protesters took out a rally to Dighalipukhuri with slogans against the BJP and RSS and warned that no politics will be allowed in Assam in the name of religion.

DYFI State Secretary, Nayan Bhuyan sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister through police administration on Friday claiming that the Bill is a violation of the Assam Accord. On the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s death anniversary, they demanded that the Centre steers clear of such an anti-constitutional move as implementation of the Bill would be indicative of a huge blow to the Indian Constitution. DYFI, SFI, CITU, AITUC, Asom Xamgrami Mancha, and several other organizations have signed the memorandum.
