GUWAHATI: The CPI, CPI-ML and the Congress have got into a huddle in Guwahati and reached an understanding to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly election.

At a meeting here on Thursday, the three parties decided to highlight all anti-people policies, corruption, 'communal agenda' etc of the BJP by taking to the streets. The meeting laid stress on bringing all anti-BJP forces together to give the ruling party a united fight.

The Congress also had such a meeting with the CPI(M) a few days back.

The Congress has been trying to stitch a grand alliance in Assam to defeat the BJP. With the AIUDF also deciding to join the Congress in the alliance, the Congress has got a shot in its arm. It has the Left parties in the grand alliance that's being given its shape.

Today's meeting was attended, among others, by APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora, CLP leader Debabrata Saikia, CLP deputy leader Rakibul Hussain, State CPI leaders Munin Mahanta, Bomboru Bora, Promode Bhuyan, N Chakreswar Kalita, CPI(ML) leaders like Rubul Sarma, Vivek Das, Pankaj Kumar Das, Bolindra Saikia and Jyoti Prakash Bora.
