Less voters' turnout in 2021 compared to 2016

The 82.04 per cent voters’ turnout in this year’s three-phase Assembly elections is 2.49% less than the last two-phase Assembly polls during 2016.

GUWAHATI, April 10: The 82.04 per cent voters' turnout in this year's three-phase Assembly elections is 2.49% less than the last two-phase Assembly polls during 2016. Of the 1,99,90,755 electorates in 2016, there were 1,03,41,506 males; 96,49,238 females; and 11 Third-Gender voters. The total turnout was 84.49% — an all-time record in Assam.

Of the 2,33,74,087 electorates in Assam during the 2021 Assembly polls, there were 1,18,23,286 males; 1,15,50,403 females; and 398 Third-Gender voters.

VOTERS' TURNOUT: In 2021, while the first-phase election in 47 LACs across 12 districts on March 27 witnessed 79.93% turnout; the second-phase in 39 LACs across 13 districts on April 1 witnessed a turnout of 80.96%. The third and final phase of the Assembly election held on April 6 registered as high as 85.20 per cent voter turnout. Elections in the final phase were held in 40 LACs across 12 districts.

HIGHEST & LOWEST VOTERS' TURNOUT: Mentionably during the three-phase polls this year, the highest turnout of 93.44% was registered at Jaleswar Constituency in Goalpara district. The lowest turnout of 71.14% was reported from Gauhati East Constituency under Kamrup (Metro). The counting of votes will commence from 8 am on May 2, 2021.
