Lower Primary school cooks, workers to gherao Director’s office

GUWAHATI: The Sodou Asom Prathamik Vidyalaya Madhyanha Bhojan Randhani Sahayika Sangstha has stated that they will gherao the office of the Mid-day Meal Mission Director on February 13 in support of their various demands.

In a press meet on Saturday, the Union secretary Jharna Begum expressed her despair at the injustice meted out to them. She stated: “We were engaged in the mid-day meal operation in 2004. With 1.17 lakh cooks and workers, we have completed 14 years of being entrusted with this occupation. However, we only receive a monthly remuneration of Rs 1,000. We want our daily wage to be increased to Rs 320. We’ve protested 44 times before and will protest for the 45th time on February 13 for our demands to be met.” It is worth mentioning that the government relieved the workers and cooks of their duty on December 24, 2018 and handed over the responsibility to NGOs. In view of their demands, the Union has decided to gherao the office of the Mid-day Meal Mission Director on February 13, 2019.
