GUWAHATI: After the Covid-19 lockdown, the market in Guwahati is upbeat in the run-up to the Durga Puja.

Talking to this reporter, a shopkeeper of the metropolitan city said, "Online shopping has had a dent on small-time shops like ours these days. Even then, we have seen people thronging the market in the run-up to the Durga Puja. This is a good sign. Since the Durga Puja is from the first of October and the State Government has already announced to disburse salaries from October 29, the people are a bit upbeat. Some private sector organizations have also decided to pay salaries to their employees before the Durga Puja. All these together have a positive impact on the market." Another shopkeeper said, "To survive in the market, we have also started to beat the online shops on the price line. This move also has a positive effect on our market. Barely a week is to go for the Durga Puja. We hope people will keep thronging the physical market."
