Martyr-Victims Threaten Assam Government For Fast Unto Death

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: Alleging negligence on the part of the State government towards the martyrs-victims’ families, the All Assam Martyrs-Victims’ Family Council (AAMVFC) has warned the State government and its Assam Accord Implementation Department of going for a fast-unto-death agitation.

Discussing the negligence of the State government and the silly statement made by its Assam Accord Implementation Department in terms of the employment of martyr-victims’ families at an emergent meeting, the AAMVFC raised the issue of unfulfilling the job opportunities for victim family members.

The council alleged that the Assam Accord Implementation Department (AAID) has shown extreme carelessness in terms of providing employment to the victim family members. AAMVFC said that only because of AAID’s callous attitude, the recruitment of the martyrs’ victim family members has failed to meet the desired goal. This is even after the President of India asking the State Chief Secretary to look into the matter for its permanent solution. The council questioned as to why the AAID is doing nothing as per its reply to a query from MLA Jadav Chandra Deka on the floor of the State Assembly wherein the department said that it was recruiting martyr-victims’ family members in various department. It further said that the applicants would get appointed as per their respective educational qualifications.

Addressing the media at a press meet at Guwahati Press Club on Sunday, the council’s chief secretary, Manik Chandra Debnath said, “We’ve approached Chief Minister on July 31 this year with a memorandum. He promised us of recruiting the members of martyr-victims’ families. An order has also been given to the AAID to proceed with the recruitment process. However, the laidback attitude adopted by the department is something like playing with our lives. Now we’ve decided not to wait further. We demand the department to collect the details of each applicant by December 31 and to take urgent action to employ them within the set date. Otherwise, we’re determined to resort to a fast-unto-death agitation.”
