Martyrs’ Families Protest CAB, Return Mementoes To Government

GUWAHATI: 7 families from Golaghat district and 39 families from Biswanath Chariali district returned the mementoes families of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation conferred on them by the State Government two years ago as a mark of protest against the Government’s move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, through their respective DC.

It may be mentioned that on January 30, 76 families of the martyrs had returned the mementoes at Guwahati. The families under the banner of ‘Sadou Asom Jatiya Swahid Parial Samannayrakhi Parishad’ staged a rally from the Swahid Nyas Bhawan, which is the office of All Assam Students Union (AASU), near Latasil to Kamrup (metropolitan) Deputy Commissioner’s office here and handed over the mementoes to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.

Speaking to the Sentinel, President of the Parishad Rajen Deka said, “We have already been opposing CAB. It is an insult to the Assam Accord and the martyrs. No foreigners can enter Assam as per the Accord and whoever has managed to arrive should be chased out.” Deka further stated, “The returning of mementoes will continue on Tuesday at Jorhat and on Wednesday at Sonitpur. If inspite of it all, CAB is passed, our rally will take a different turn.”
