Mass Gathering Demands Boro Kachari Council Outside BTC

Kokrajhar/GUWAHATI: A grand mass gathering under the aegis of United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) was held at Bathoupuri, Gorchuk in Guwahati on Tuesday to press for early creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts.

Addressing the gathering, the president of the UBPO Mihiniswar Basumatary said the Bodos demanded separate state from River Sonkosh in the West and to Sadia in the East for the Bodos in the North bank of the Brahmaputra River and Nilachal Autonomous Council in the South bank besides inclusion of Boro Kachari people in the ST list but the government has not formed the autonomius council in the South bank other than creating BTC. He said the Boro Kachari people compelled to bring out agitation for new council outside BTC in Assam as government has failed to form Boro Kachari Autonomous Council although it has formed various autonomous councils across the state. He also said the UBPO started its democratic movement for new council since 2014 after floating the organization.

Basumatary said the Bodo people outside BTC had supported the Congress led government earlier and now supported the BJP led state government for their cause. He said the Bodos played deciding role in every assembly election and parliamentary elections and will continue to play important role and therefore, the present government should fulfill its promises given during the last election. He also cautioned that the UBPO had been observing the sincerity of the government towards the formation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council.

BPF MLA of Chapaguri constituency said the party had strong support towards the creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC area. He said the Bodos of outside BTC districts worked together and sacrificed their lives for the cause Bodoland movement but the BTC is created only with four districts.

Basumatary said the Boro Kachari people outside BTC districts should not feel isolated but the people of BTC and its leaders will always be with the people of proposed Boro Kachari Autonomous Council and their issues. He also said the BPF will continue to extend its support for the creation of new autonomous council for Boro Kachari people.
