Meeting on panchayat poll preparedness held in Kamrup district

GUWAHATI: Taking cognizance of the ensuing panchayat polls, the Kamrup metro district administration under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal and in the presence of Guwahati police Commissioner Pradip Saloi and other district administration officials organized a meeting with the contesting candidates of the Panchayat polls on Tuesday at the Sudmersen hall of Cotton University.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked the candidates to adhere to the guideline prescribed by the State Election Commission. He also asked to strictly hold on the limit of expenditure according to the code of conduct prescribed by the State Election Commission. “The district administration will keep a close watch upon the contesting candidates,” Mittal said to the candidates. He highlighted that the code of conduct cell and expenditure cell formed by the district administration will monitor the norms to be followed by the contesting candidates. He also urged the candidates to remain in consultation with the Circle Officers of the respective constituencies.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration has already stepped up all necessary measures to conduct the rural polls smoothly. Attending the meeting, Guwahati police Commissioner Pradip Saloi suggested the candidates to remain in communication with the police stations located in their respective constituencies. He also apprised that the police will initiate all preventive measures to conduct peaceful and transparent rural polls.

In the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khitish Chandra Pegu has explained all the important clauses of the election code of conduct prescribed by the State Election Commission while chief executive officer of Kamrup metro district Ramen Malakar explained the expenditure limit and its related affairs to the candidates, a communiqué said.
