Mittal advocates for biodegradable materials

GUWAHATI, June 2: Keeping in mind the World Environment Day, 2018 which is observed on June 5 every year, the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) Virendra Mittal has come forward to make the district a plastic free region in consonance with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

Discouraging the use of plastic of thickness less than 50 micron in the district Mittal urged upon all concerned government agencies, organizations, business groups, entrepreneurs, stall owners and the like to take note of the same and make alternative arrangements for use of bio-degradable materials including paper bags, Cloth bag, Jute bag, nut leaf plates etc., which are environment friendly. He also appealed to the citizens to adopt sustainable practices of living and follow 5Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse and Repurpose) and to be prove themselves as responsible citizens and to come forward to fight against climate change and make the district plastic free.

India is the global host of the World Environment Day, 2018. The theme for World Environment Day 2018, urges governments, industry, communities, and individuals to come together and explore sustainable alternatives and to reduce the production and use of single-use plastic that pollutes our rivers, oceans, damaging marine life and threatening human health.
