GUWAHATI: Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) seized contraband morphine and foreign cigarettes worth around Rs 75 lakh from two separate Rajdhani Express trains at the Guwahati Railway Station on Wednesday.

According to RPF and GRP sources, an amount of .730 gm of morphine valued at around Rs 70 lakh was recovered from train No 20503 Down Rajdhani Express. Two persons - Rajesh Kumar Singh (50) and Srikanta Singh (45), both residents of Hahchara in the Tinsukia district - have been arrested in this connection. Both of them did not have tickets but boarded the train at Dimapur by managing the TTE.

In the second incident, the RPF and GRP personnel searched train No 12423 Down Rajdhani Express and recovered two bags containing foreign cigarettes of the Korean 'Esse' brand. One Vishal Singh (30) of Tazuddinpur under the Sultanpur Police Station of Uttar Pradesh has been arrested in this connection, the sources said. The cigarette smuggler was travelling from Dimapur without a ticket and planned to go to Prayagraj (Allahabad) by managing the TTE. The value of the seized cigarettes is around Rs 5 lakh.
