GUWAHATI: The DSE (Directorate of Secondary Education), Assam has decided to re-examine the credentials of all the TET (Teachers' Eligibility Test)-qualified candidates appointed under the Directorate during the last five years. The DSE has further directed the IS (Inspector of Schools) of 21 districts to submit detailed reports by October 22. This decision has been taken after the shocking revelation that many teachers with fake TET certificates had been serving at the high school level in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region). The fact came to light following probes by CID (Criminal Investigation Department) recently. Already a number of such fake TET teachers have been arrested.

A total of 5,592 TET-qualified candidates have been appointed as PGTs (Post-Graduate Teachers) and also as GTs (Graduate Teachers) in various provincialized High Schools/Higher Secondary Schools and High Madrassas under the Directorate during the period from October 2016 to September 2021. Of the 5,592 TET-qualified teachers appointed across 21 plain districts of the State, altogether 5,105 were GTs and 487 PGTs.

Of the 73 TET teachers appointed during 2016-2017, a total of 44 were PGTs and 29 were GTs.

Of the 1,223 TET personnel appointed during 2017-2018, a total of 337 were PGTs and 886 were GTs.

During 2018-2019, a total of 104 TET-qualified PGT teachers were appointed. In 2019-2020, no teachers were appointed under the DSE. During 2021-2022, of the 4,192 TET teachers appointed, a total of 4,190 were GTs while the remaining two were PGTs.

The DSE has sought the following details: Date of appointment; year of clearing TET; roll number of TET-cleared candidates, percentage of marks in TET, candidates' contact numbers, and the institutes where they are presently serving. Similarly, the DHE (Directorate of Higher Education) has also asked the Principals of all government and provincialised colleges to submit the professional details of PhD and M. Phil acquired teachers and librarians of colleges appointed on or after January 1, 2016, within October 21.
