GUWAHATI: Multiple protests were witnessed in Chachal area of the city on Tuesday coinciding with the second day of the Assam Legislative Assembly Winter Session. Among them were the All Assam Primary and Upper Primary Mid-Day Meal Cook and Helper Association, Siksha Sarathi Siksha Karmi and Community Volunteer Association of Assam, All Assam Non-Provincialized Teachers' Association and the Muslim Students' Union of Assam.

The All Assam Primary and Upper Primary Mid-Day Meal Cook and Helper Association dispatched a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma containing their charter of demands. The association sought a remuneration hike from the current Rs 1,500 to Rs 9,600 for the 1,18,998 cooks and helpers engaged in the Assam Primary and Upper Primary Mid-Day Meal scheme.
