'Murder' of bride: Absconding husband held in Kooch Behar

GUWAHATI: Shamiul Rahman, who had been absconding since December 3 when the police recovered the body of his wife in his rented residence at Ulubari here, was arrested by Paltan Bazar Police from Kooch-Behar on Saturday. He is being taken to Guwahati.

The body of the 27-year-old Anajuma Bibi was found in her rented house at Ratan Dewan Path in the Ulubari area here on Thursday.

She was staying in the rented house with her husband, Shamiul Rahman. For the last few days, the family members of Anajuma were not getting her in telephone. Both Anajuma and Shamiul are from Dhubri. On suspicion, a few family members of Anajuma came to the rented house on Thursday only to find her body wrapped with blankets under the cot. The mother of Anajuma filed an FIR at Paltan Bazar Police Station. A case (963/2020 u/s 302 of IPC) has been registered to this effect.
