GUWAHATI: The National Girl Child Day 2021 was celebrated under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme at Sonapur District Hospital, Kamrup Metropolitan District on January 24.
The programme was organized by the District Administration and the District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with Health Department, Kamrup Metropolitan District and supported by District Level Centre for Women, Kamrup Metro. The programme was started with felicitation of new born baby girl with her mother and plantation in the name of the girl child on the hospital premises. The District Social Welfare Officer, Kamrup Metropolitan District delivered speech with special focus on value of girl child. The Superintendent of the hospital also focused on health and nutrition issues of girl child. In the programme frontline workers were felicitated for their outstanding work during the pandemic. The health officials, ASHA, ANM and felicitated frontline workers shared their experiences and showed willingness to promote BBBP scheme including creating awareness about value of girl child at community level. In the programme, BBBP leaflets, stickers etc were distributed among the participants. There were around 100 participants present in the programme which includes district officials of Social Welfare Department, CDPOs, supervisors, officials of Health Department, doctors etc. Further, plantation drive in the name of girl child was organized at all AWCs of the district. Second newborn baby girls were also felicitated at ICDS project level with the objective to create awareness about value of each girl child so that the second girl child shall be equally welcomed as the first one. The programme was ended with oath taking by all the participants.
