Team Assam awarded at Arogya Manthan Event

GUWAHATI: National Health Mission, Assam has organized the two-day Swasthya Manthan-3 with support from Piramal Foundation at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati. The programme was launched on Tuesday by State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta in the presence of Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, Mission Director-NHM, Assam, Dr Nilmadhab Das, Director of Health Services, Dr Ashok Roy, Director RRC-NE, and other officials.

The review workshop discussed topics like reproductive and child health. Further, a district-wise review was held on the health performance of each district and discussions were held on how to improve the health of children and mothers. In the workshop, any further course correction that may be required by the districts to improve the health indicators will be discussed.

In today's review meet, the best performers from the State and district were also felicitated by the Health Minister for their hard work and dedication towards improving the health system in their respective districts.

Assam has shown improvement in the health indicators as per the office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, recently published the Sample Registration System (SRS), Statistical Report 2020. As per the report, Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) per 1,000 Live Birth of the State has dropped by 4 points from 40 (SRS, 2019) to 36 (SRS, 2020). Similarly, Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) per 1,000 Live Birth of the State has dropped by 3 points from 43 (SRS, 2019) to 40 (SRS, 2020). Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) per 1,000 Live Birth of the State has also dropped from 20 (SRS, 2019) to 19 (SRS, 2020). NMR of the State, 19 (SRS, 2020) is below the national average of 20 (SRS, 2020).

The Health Minister appreciated the efforts made by Health & Family Welfare for improvement of the health indicators. Team Assam was awarded for the best performance for achieving registration of healthcare facilities at the Arogya Manthan Event in New Delhi on Monday and is also one of the states being awarded for registration of more than 99 per cent public healthcare facilities under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). stated a press release.
