GUWAHATI: The Department of English, Kamrup College, Chamata, organized a national webinar on "Modernism in Indian English Literature" on June 14, in collaboration with Gogate-Walke College (Mumbai University) and Assam College Librarians' Association.

The Webinar which was coordinated and moderated by Dr. Sanjib Kumar Goswami, head of the department of English, Kamrup College was inaugurated by Professor Kailash Ch. Baral, Vice Chairman, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Ministry for Human Resource and Development, Kolkata. In his speech Professor Baral dwelt upon the multiplicity of Indian English literature and how different regional and cultural registers are at work within this entity called Indian English literature.

Noted writer and critic and professor in the department of English, Gauhati University, Bibhas Choudhury delivered the keynote address in which he laid emphasis on the multiple nuances of modernist experiences as depicted in Indian English literature, irrespective of fiction, poetry, life writing or non-fictional genres.

Eminent author and Assistant Professor of English, Kirorimal College, Delhi University, Debdulal Halder served as resource person and threw light on the initial phase of modernism in Indian English literature. Dr. Birender Pal, librarian of Kaliabar College, shared information regarding the electronic sources of books and study materials of English literature.

Academicians and researchers from 51 universities and more than 400 hundred higher education institute participated in this National Webinar.
