GUWAHATI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is conducting mock drills in eight districts of Assam to check the preparedness for flood management ahead of the upcoming monsoons. As a part of this initiative, a mock drill will be undertaken in the Sonapur Revenue Circle of the Kamrup (metro) district from April 25 to April 27. A meeting regarding the same was conducted in the Kamrup (metro) DC’s office on Tuesday.

The meeting was chaired by the Additional Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority Bikram Chetry. District Project Manager of District Disaster Management Authority Kaustav Talukdar explained the details of the steps to be taken as part of the mock drill. He said that the NDMA will advise the nodal officers of various departments responsible for flood management on April 25. The overall planning will be done on April 26.

The final mock drill will be conducted on April 27. The drill will be conducted assuming that a village under the Sonapur Revenue Circle is affected by floods and teams of NDRF and SDRF will rescue the residents and evacuate them to a safe place.
