GUWAHATI: “Under the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the north-eastern states are on the path of fast-paced development. When the Congress was in power, the north-eastern region had not seen any development,” said Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday. Athawale visited Guwahati and reviewed the schemes of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Addressing a press conference in the city, he further said, “In the past nine years, the road infrastructure of Assam has improved. Now the focus should be on industrial development so that employment opportunities are created. I urge big companies to set up industries in Assam through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.”

He informed that 44 lakh people benefited from the PM Ujjwala scheme and 2.20 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in Assam till now. Under the PM’s Mudra Yojana which started in 2015, about 98,50,000 beneficiaries got benefits in Assam, while 79,000 people in Assam benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, about 6,19,000 people were benefited in Assam. The Union Minister of State also said that the government was concerned about the youths and hence it provided financial assistance for establishment of 113 de-addiction centre in Assam.

“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the nation has progressed. India assumed the presidency of the G20 forum, which is a landmark achievement. But Rahul Gandhi has defamed the country on foreign soil and he must apologize,” said Athawale. He said that in the next Lok Sabha election, the NDA alliance will again come back to power with more than 400 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone will win more than 350 seats.

Talking about his party, Athawale said that the Republican Party of India (RPI) won two seats in the recently held Assembly polls in Nagaland. “We intend to contest in two seats in Assam in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Our party’s organizational base is strong in Barpeta and the Barak Valley. We will hold discussions in this regard with the Prime Minister and Assam Chief Minister,” he said.

Athawale said that the RPI had implemented a Rs 300-crore project in Barpeta and on April 29, it will organize a programme as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in the Goalpara district.
