New anti-drug & prohibition panel formed under Assam Social Welfare Department

GUWAHATI: The Governor of Assam, vide a Notification issued on March 1 under provisions of the Assam Opium Prohibition Act 1947, the Assam Liquor Prohibition Act, 1952 and the Assam Ganja and Bhang Prohibition Act, 1958 has re-constituted the State Anti Drug and Prohibition Council under the Social Welfare Department with immediate effect.

While Mridula Barkakati will be the chairperson of the nine-member council, Jitu Borgohain will serve as the vice-chariperson.

The other members of the council are Jayanta Baruah, Satya Borthakur, Anupam Rohit, Prasanta Deka, Bhadreswar Deka, Snehasis Baruah and Pushparani Sarkar. The tenure of the council, unless dissolved earlier, will be three years.
