New SOP Effective From Monday, Curfew in Guwahati Likely to be Relaxed Till 4 PM

GUWAHATI: The Assam government will be releasing the new Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) on June 26.

Further, as per sources, curfew timing in Guwahati is likely to be relaxed till 4 PM.

Meanwhile, a total containment zone is on the cards in Biswanath district, Morigaon district, Goalpara district, and Bokakhat subdivision.

Notably, the Assam state government has identified 220 COVID-19 hotspots in these districts in order to curb the spread of the deadly infectious disease.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Golaghat and Biswanath districts is the highest among these districts. Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Baxa, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Kamrup(R), Sivasagar, and Dhemaji are among the other districts where the pandemic situation remains critical.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated that the administration is considering how to deal with the situation. He suggested that the government may establish containment zones in certain COVID-19 hotspot locations.

"Till now, we have not considered taking resort of lockdown in these districts. We are deciding to declare containment zones in these hotspots,' he said.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on the other hand, stated that he will have a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners of these 15 districts to discuss measures to combat the epidemic. He also suggested that a new set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) will be released soon.
