NF Railway cancels 50 trains to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus

GUWAHATI: In the wake of the corona scare, NF Railway has cancelled as many as 24 low-occupancy trains mostly March 20 to April 4. Some of the trains have been cancelled up to March 31. It has also cancelled 26 other trains for other reasons.

Talking to The Sentinel, NF Railway PRO Nripen Bhattacharya said, “We’ve identified 24 low-occupancy trains. Passengers’ scanning for coronavirus is going on in the major stations. We’ve our health booths in the railways stations. We’ve made arrangements for sanitizers in each and every train compartment. In AC compartments we’ve already removed blankets and window screens.”

Bhattacharya further said, “With a view to avoiding unnecessary crowd in railway stations, we’ve hiked the price of platform ticket up to Rs 50 per ticket.” NF Railway has also cancelled 26 trains in the Digaru-Jagiroad section for the commissioning of double-lane. Ten other trains have also been cancelled partially in the Guwahati-Lumding, Guwahati-Silghat and Guwahati-Agartala lines.
