GUWAHATI: On duty RPF staff of NF Railway recovered one polythene bag containing two suspected items lying in between Line No 10 and South side boundary wall of Guwahati Railway station at 09.30 am on Thursday. The news created a commotion in the station as people panicked.
Receiving the information, security staff of RPF and GRP attended the spot and took precautionary measures. ADRM/Guwahati, Principal Chief Security Commissioner, DIG/Railway, SRP/Pandu also attended the site getting the information. At around 10.50 am, the bomb disposal squad of special branch, Assam Police/Guwahati attended the site and quickly checked the substance with their equipments. During checking, it was confirmed that the recovered substance was not a bomb. It was observed during checking that some substances were wrapped with paper coating in a cylindrical shape and both ends connected with wires weighing about 200 gm each.
Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar said that the bag contained diwali crackers like substances and were definitely not high level explosives. However, the material will be sent to Forensic Science Laboratory by GRPS for further investigation. The initial investigation with the help of Bomb Squad was completed at around 11.30 am. No case in this regard has been initiated by GRPS/GHY so far.
