NHM's priority COVID vaccination sessions for women today in Assam

GUWAHATI: Priority Covid Vaccination Sessions and Cervical Cancer Screening camp for women to mark the occasion of International Women's Day in Assam on the occasion of International Women's Day on 8th March, in 100 Covid Vaccination Centres in the State, including district hospitals, community health centres (CHCs) and primary health centres (PHCs) along with Medical Colleges shall be conducting priority vaccination sessions for women. These special sessions will be held from 10 am to 12 noon. All women, whether healthcare workers (HCW) or frontline workers (FLW) or belonging to 60+ and 45+ age category with comorbid conditions will be given priority Covid vaccine during these sessions. Ongoing vaccination programme will also be carried out simultaneously.

The Health and Family Welfare Department takes this opportunity to pay respect and sincere tribute to all the womenfolk of the State who have extended their unconditional support during the pandemic.

In another programme, namely Cancer Cervix Eradication Programme, screening for the vulnerable community will start from tomorrow. Under this programme, the World Health Organization, Indian Red Cross Society Assam, Dr B Baruah Cancer Institute, Guwahati and Assam Cancer Care Foundation will be partnering with National Health Mission, Assam under the aegis of Health and Family Welfare Department. Through the screening programme, it is expected to cover all the ASHAs, ANMs and GNMs working under Health Department in addition to the local population by involving all Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in the State along with higher centres/health facilities. The inaugural screening session will be held on 8th March, 2021 in the Red Cross Hospital, Chandmari in the presence of all the above mentioned organizations where more than 200 women of vulnerable age group will be screened for Cervical Cancer, a press release said.
