‘No parking’ is the parking space at Ganeshguri

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 3: Literally, a ‘No Parking’ sign installed in a particular public space is thought to be a pointer to the restriction of unauthorized parking of vehicles to ease smooth plying without traffic congestion.

However, the ‘No Parking’ sign installed at Ganeshguri market does not restrict illegal parking. Anyone visiting Ganeshguri market can readily park a vehicle in the middle of the road, in the ‘No Parking’ zone or on both sides of the road ignoring the clearly visible sign board. No one is bothered from creating an ugly landscape of parking there as the GMC staff who are suppose to monitor the affairs hardly make their appearance on the spot. They must be convinced that a sign board is enough to streamline the chaos.

The densities of four-wheeler, two-wheeler; including both commercial and domestic plying there, commercial establishments and the daily crowd seen at Ganeshguri never get lessen round the clock. Adding salt to the wound, the increasing numbers of street vendors at Ganeshguri and their aggressive occupation of the footpath have been aggravating the situation. Eventually, the commoners are normally seen walking on the middle of the road negotiating the traffic congestion risking their lives. Even after so much of chaos, the GMC is yet to wake up for the best reason known to them.
