Non-ending construction work of Jayanagar road

Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Sept 30: The Jayanagar Road in the city has been under construction/ repair for months together. Beginning with the digging of the road to lay down water pipes, followed by the needful repair, the work continues at a virtually snail’s pace to the utter discomfort of the public.

While the road, being a very important one, is used by thousands of commuters and vehicles every day, the construction/ repair work, in the fitness of things, should have been carried out with fire-fighting urgency. Only such an approach would have minimized the discomfort presently being suffered by the public. Unfortunately, that is not to be. On the contrary, all construction/repair work is progressing at an extremely slow pace. The slow progress only causes the people, particularly the local residents, to be of the view that the concerned authorities are least bothered about the woes faced by users of the road as well as the local residents. That being the hugely gloomy scenario, the overall result being that massive traffic jams crop up at times, mainly during peak hours, while the commuter is left to mend for himself.

Considering the importance of the road in view of its location, the locals question as to how long this sordid state of affairs would continue. Talking to this reporter, many local residents have vented their anger and disgust against the authorities, while urging Dispur that the construction/repair work be speeded up so that they can have some respite. It may be pertinent to state at this juncture that recently a meeting was held with Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner in the chair in respect of such roads in the city and it was resolved that alls such construction/repair work in the city be completed before the Durga Puja.
