Noonmati police arrests one for sexual assault

GUWAHATI: The Noonmati police arrested one Asan Ali (68) from Abhayapuri under Bongaigaon district on Wednesday vide Noonmati police station case (No. 632/18 u/s 376 (i) IPC R/W section 6 of POCSO Act) allegedly for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl of Pattorquary near Narengi. According to a police source, following the departure of her mother, the girl was kept at Asan Ali’s Abhayapuri residence expecting necessary care and guidance from June 18 till August this year. The source said the accused sexually assaulted the girl during that period taking advantage of her helplessness. After the revelation of the condemnable act, the father of the victim lodged an FIR at Noonmati police station following which accused Asan was arrested on Wednesday from his Abhayapuri residence. Meanwhile, Asan has been forwarded to judicial custody.
