North East Book Fair: Books worth Rs 65 lakh sold so far

GUWAHATI: Despite speculations that spirit of book reading has been diminishing especially among the young generation, the volume of books sold at the 20th edition of the North East Book Fair organized at AEI Field, Chandmari by the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers’ Association (AAP&BSA) is showing a ray of hope. Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, AAP&BSA secretary Dhiraj Goswami revealed that a volume of books worth Rs 65 lakh has been sold so far. He said that irrespective of young and old, readers of all ages have been gathering the stalls to find their respective choices. He maintained that varieties of preferred books of the visitors include novels, short stories including books on history, culture, heritage and others. Apart from selling books of various tastes, this year’s North East Book Fair has been marked by interactive sessions, cultural and other events. Notably, till the conclusion of the fair, scheduled on November 20, the volume of selling is expected to cross the figure recorded last year
