North East can be nerve centre of cultural tourism: Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi

Guwahati, Oct 7: Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi said that cultural diversities and their richness have put North East altogether on a higher pedestal. Speaking at the 2nd Regional level National Song Competition organised by the Bharat Vikas Parishad at Shilpagram, Guwahati today, Mukhi said that it is because of the unique cultural traits of the North East, the region can claim to be a treasure trove and epicentre of cultural tourism of the country. This has ben state in an official communiqué.

Congratulating the participants on their colourful display of different cultural facets, the Governor advised them to dedicatedly resort themselves to their vocations and take the culture of North East to a different height. He also asked them to carry the responsibility of taking the colourful culture of North East traversing all geographical boundaries and make the region famous for cultural tourism.

Mukhi hailed Bharat Vikas Parishad for organizing the regional competition which he believed will instil a sense of patriotism in the upcoming generation and will also promote communal harmony, strengthen the bond of brotherhood and augur a sense of responsibility towards nation building. Referring to the famous quote of Swami Vivekananda, Prof. Mukhi urged upon the participants to work hard till they reach their goal.

Earlier the Governor paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the North East who fought valiantly for the cause of freedom from the clutch of foreign rule. He also thanked the organiser for being invited to the programme which gave him an opportunity to witness the diverse cultural traits of north east. He also released a souvenir on the occasion.

Vice Chancellor Central Agricultural Universities of NE Region & Patron Bharat Vikash Parishad (BVP) NE Region Dr Premjit Singh, Natioanl Coordinator BVP Sitaram Pareek, National Organizing Secretary BVP Suresh Jain, Chief General Manager,i/c IOCL Bongaigaon Refinery Gopal Ch Sikdar along with a host of other dignitaries were present at the function, the communiqué added.
