GUWAHATI: The air quality in North East's capital cities has continued to be in the "Good" category of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for the past three months.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) Guwahati has remained in between 47 to 50 (Good category) since the last week of April this year. Restriction on movement of vehicles, industrial activities and curfew due to the second wave of Covid-19 is one the prime reasons for less number of pollutants in the air in the city.

On Monday too, the other North-Eastern cities like Agartala, Kohima and Shillong have recorded 'Good' air quality.

An environment expert associated with the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) said COVID-19 related restrictions across the North East have helped in significant improvement of air quality. He said under the "Good" air quality category there is less possibility of breathing discomfort among the people.
