GUWAHATI, Sept 9: With the Government having decided to ban mechanized boat (bhutbhuti) service on the Brahmaputra in the wake of the recent boat tragedy, around 3000 passengers who make way across the river between North Guwahati and Guwahati every day are reportedly facing a tough time.

In all about 100 bhutbhutis operated by private owners between Guwahati and North Guwahati have gone out of service after the mishap.

On the other hand, the transport department claims that it has introduced 10 Assam State Transport Corporation buses to ply between North Guwahati and Guwahati. However, the residents of North Guwahati who travel to Guwahati on a daily basis are not happy with the system. They complain that there is no end to their woes with the buses not plying on time. They are demanding of the Government the introduction of safer boats.
