The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway recovered ganja and liquor worth more than Rs 7.13 lakh during the period between February 7 and February 10, stated a press release.

GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway recovered ganja and liquor worth more than Rs 7.13 lakh during the period between February 7 and February 10, stated a press release. The contraband goods were recovered during checking and drives conducted at different trains and stations over NF Railway.

In an incident on February 10, an RPF team of Agartala conducted checking in train No. 14619 DN (Tripura Sundari Express) at Agartala Railway Station and recovered 6 kg of unclaimed ganja worth about Rs 60,000. The recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, Agartala for further action.

In an another incident on February 9, a CPDS team of RPF of New Jalpaiguri conducted checking in train No. 12346 DN (Saraighat Express) at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. During checking, they recovered 12 packets of ganja weighing about 21.3 kg and worth about Rs 2.13 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, New Jalpaiguri for disposal.

Again on February 8, an RPF team of Agartala conducted checking at Agartala Railway Station and recovered one packet of unclaimed ganja weighing 4.5 kg and worth about Rs 45,000. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC of GRP, Agartala for further action.

Moreover, on February 7, a CPDS team of RPF of Katihar conducted a special drive in train No. 01666 (Rani Kamlapati Special) from Barsoi to Katihar Railway Station. During the drive, the team recovered 13 packets of unclaimed ganja weighing 38.080 kg, worth about Rs 3.8 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, Katihar for disposal.

On February 9, a CPDS team of RPF of Alipurduar Junction conducted a surprise drive in train No. 12516 DN (Coimbatore Express). During checking in the train from Kokrajhar to New Coochbehar, the team apprehended one on-duty pantry car staff and recovered 13 bottles of liquor worth Rs 1,225. The apprehended person could not give any satisfactory reply regarding the recovered liquor. Later, the apprehended person along with the seized liquor was handed over to the OC of GRPS, Alipurduar Junction for further course of action. Again, on that day, an RPF team of Guwahati conducted checking against illegal activities at Guwahati Railway Station and recovered three unclaimed bags containing 60 bottles of liquor, worth Rs 14,016. Later, the seized liquor bottles were handed over to the Excise Department, Guwahati for disposal.
