GUWAHATI: On direction of Satya Narayan Pradhan, IPS, Director General, National Disaster Response Force, a State level joint mock drill on Earthquake will be conducted at Guwahati Assam on March 26, 2019 at Shillong District- East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, in which mock evacuation exercise will be conducted in Guwahati, Assam and Shillong, for generating awareness amongst public in case of disaster. A Task Force consisting of NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services and Civil Defence will be operated for planning and coordination of the exercise.
The Northeast is vulnerable to disasters and rescue operations during Floods, Landslides and Earthquake are challenging. Intensive Training and Mock Drill to cope with various disasters develop the confidence to respond in a disaster situation. As a response force, NDRF Rescuers are excellence in their field.
Since inception, NDRF Guwahati in collaboration with other stakeholders has endeavored to make Northeast safe from all types of disasters. 1st Battalion NDRF Patgaon Guwahati is providing its services in the North Eastern States in case of any natural and manmade disaster.
According to a press release, mock drills provide a suitable platform to the State and Central Governments for an organization and rapid employment of rescuers to mitigate any kind of disaster. Such exercises will be conducted frequently in various districts of NE region as the whole North East region falls under high seismic zone ‘V’ of an earthquake.
Disaster Management is the key to the sustainability of development in North East India. All seven states fall under seismic zone V, which make these states more vulnerable to earthquake hazards and associated risks. In disaster management, a community is a very important element, if we dream for disaster resilient India for a stable and safer society, the community has to be sensitized and to be made aware to deal with basics of disaster management. In the process to make the community safer and disaster resilient, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is on its mission Apda Seva Saidav.
