GUWAHATI: Keeping in the COVID-19 situation in the State, the Assam Government has directed all district and subdivisonal administration to ensure that not more than 500 people attend the Independence Day programmes.

The General Administration Department has instructed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Subdivisional Officers (SDO Civil) to ensure that the maximum number of people who attend the I-Day programmes should not exceed 500. The DCs and SDOs (Civil) have also been instructed to ensure that COVID protocol is adhered to while making the seating arrangement.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has chalked out the schedule of the flag hoisiting programme of all ministers. The ministers have been assigned districts where they will attend the I-Day programmes. Ranjit Kumar Dass will attend the I-Day programme in Barpeta district, Parimal Suklabaidya in Cachar, Ajanta Neog in Golaghat, Chandra Mohan Patowary in Darrang, Atul Bora in Sivasagar, Keshab Mahanta in Nagaon, Dr Ranuj Pegu in Jorhat, Joegn Mohan in Tinsukia, Ashok Singhal in Sonitpur, Bimal Bora in Dibrugarh, UG Brahma in Chirang, Sanjay Kishan in Lakhimpur and Pijush Hazarika in Nalbari. The Chief Minister will attend the official I-Day programme in Guwahati.

Since Atul Bora had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 8, his presence in the I-Day programme is uncertain.
