Noted academician Dr PC Bhattacharya passes away

GUWAHATI: Noted academician and doyen of Assam language and literature, Dr Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya died on Monday morning at the age of 93 years in a city hospital. He has been undergoing treatment over the last couple of days owing to old-age related ailments.

Known for his breakthrough research on folk culture, Dr Bhattacharya had immense contributions towards the Bodo language. Notably, Dr Bhattachrya was conferred with the highest honour of the Bodos, the Upendranath Brahma award for his invaluable contribution towards the Bodo language and its development.

Serving as a teacher and later, Principal of B Barooah College, Bhattacharya inspired students of many generations. His literary works like A Descriptive Analysis of the Bodo Language, Sora Phul, Kuwalir Are Are, Bodo Folksongs and Tales etc. created a benchmark in the literary arena.
