Noted freedom fighter Jatin Goswami passes away at 97

GUWAHATI: Jatin Goswami, noted freedom fighter and litterateur of Assam, passed away here on Wednesday. He was 97.

He passed away at around 4:20 am on Wednesday at his residence in the Silpukhuri area here.

Goswami was born on September 17, 1925 in Patacharkuchi in the Bajali district and became a prominent figure during the freedom struggle.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his grief at Goswami's demise. Sarma tweeted: "Extremely grieved at the demise of eminent litterateur and freedom fighter Jatin Goswami. We will always remember his contribution to society. While praying for the eternal peace of the immortal soul of the former vice president of the Axam Xahitya Xabha, I extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family."
