NRC: Indigenous Assamese Muslims To Form Special Legal Cell

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The final draft of the NRC is due to release on Saturday and many people are apprehensive about making the list. The Sadou Asom Goria-Moria-Deshi Jatiya Parishad (SAGMDJP), an indigenous Assamese Muslim body, has appealed to the mass not to panic and maintain a cool head even if certain names are missing from the list.

The parishad assured that various communities such as the goriya and the moria need not be apprehensive about the release of the final draft because even if certain names do not make the list, the parishad will aid in verification in each district of the State.

The parishad further assured that a special legal cell will be formed and legal aid will be provided for all the omitted names in the final NRC draft in every district. They also appealed that the names that do not make the list and those, whose legal documents are not available, should not be swayed by any communal parties or leaders.

When the NRC pilot project was started, a section of communal parties and organizations tried to prevent the same from happening and shut down the NRC procedures. However, AASU (All Assam Students Union) and thirty other organizations joined hands and pushed back the ant-NRC forces. They helped in continuing the NRC processes and have aided ever since. The parishad was optimistic that after August 31, the long plaguing issues of Assam and the Assamese will be solved once and for all.
