GUWAHATI: The National Students of India (NSUI) in pursuit of its nationwide campaign #WaiveFeesPromoteStudents is undertaking a week-long programme in Assam to pressurize the Government to immediately promote students at the earliest due to ongoing COVID19 pandemic across the State.

In this regard, on June 23, each of our District NSUI Units would be organizing a Press Conference in each District and Assembly Units of Assam. They would be informing the public on how they have undertaken this Program in colleges around them, while highlighting the issues faced by local students. Thereafter, on June 24, a signature campaign would be undertaken in each district to show the solidarity of students and parents on the issue. The signed petition would be thereafter submitted to the Governor of Assam to press their demands. On and June 25 and 26, thousands of postcards from across the State would be sent to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take action upon the issue at the earliest.

NSUI general secretary and Assam State in-charge Anushesh Sharma while launching the statewide campaign stated "NSUI in continuance of its successful campaigns in the state of Maharashtra, Kashmir, Pondicherry and Telengana would continue on its resolve to obtain the same result for the students of Assam. The Government of Assam did listen to our queries and decided upon waiving fees for the upcoming semester. But the work was half-done as students presently in universities and colleges are facing huge concern on the future of their ongoing semester. The health scenario due to COVID-19 breakdown is deteriorating day by day risking mass community transmission, in students' interest to protect them and give them clarity; they should be immediately promoted to subsequent semesters at the earliest. Failure to do so, NSUI would launch a state-wide mass agitation where students will be forced to come out on the streets of Assam in protest as Hunger strikes in such frantic times."
