One arrested for demanding ransom in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Gharchuk police arrested one identified as Hanun Sangma allegedly for demanding ransom amounting to Rs 2 lakh from a stationary shop keeper using the name of ULFA (I) cadre Dristi Rajkhowa on November 4 vide case No 629/18 u/s 387 IPC. According to a police source, some miscreants demanded the ransom from the vendor over telephone. Accordingly, the vendor filed an FIR at Gharchuk police on November 4. In the meantime, the miscreant again called up the vendor and stressed him to pay the demand at the earliest. In response, the vendor negotiated the amount and settled at Rs 50 thousand and asked him to come and collect Rs 20 thousand as advance somewhere at Gharchuk. Following their scheduled meeting, the police nabbed Hanun Sangma. However, during the interrogation Sangma revealed that he was sent only to collect the money.
