GUWAHATI: Sandeep Jalan, son of Manohar Lal Jalan, resident of Nabin Nagar, Geetanagar, filed a complaint on Tuesday that one person impersonating as MLA Jayanta Mallah Baruah had demanded Rs 30 lakh from him. On receipt of the complaint, a case was registered vide Bhangagarh PS case No 440/2021 U/S 419/420/387 IPC and investigation started. The culprit was one Navadeep Sharma, son of Lohit Sharma, resident of Bagarbari under Satgaon PS.

The accused was apprehended and in preliminary investigation, it came to light that the accused had saved his phone number as Jayanta Mallah Baruah in Truecaller to fool people. The accused admitted that he was extorting money by impersonating as MLA Jayanta Mallah Baruah, on the pretext of providing jobs in various departments. He admitted extorting money from five persons for jobs. Investigation is on to unearth further details and other possible victims.
