GUWAHATI: An awareness programme for beneficiaries of the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) Scheme is to be held on November 20 at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati.
The event has been organized by the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, in collaboration with the Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Assam. This event is part of the ongoing awareness events taken up by the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DoFPD) and the Government of India across the country regarding the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) Scheme. Officials from DoFPD and the Government of India will attend the event. Senior officers from DoFPD, the Government of India, and others will join through video conference. Apart from departmental officers, MLAs and local administrators have also been invited to the said event on November 20.
The ONORC programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 30, 2020. The ONORC system facilitates all NFSA beneficiaries with Aadhaar seeding, particularly migrant beneficiaries, to claim either full or part foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop (FPS) in the country, which is ePOS enabled, through existing ration cards in a seamless manner. Their family members back home, if any, can also claim the balance of the foodgrains on the same ration card. Assam was on-boarded on the ONORC platform by June 2022. Awareness programmes and mobile miking have been conducted in all districts to educate the public on ONORC. Around 75 FPS dealers and 400 NFSA beneficiaries from Kamrup (M) District are taking part in the event.
