GUWAHATI: Farmers of the State who insured their crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) are not receiving the insurance money on time, said Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (AJYCPA). President of the body, Rubul Das underlined that around 27 lakh farmers from the State insured their crops under the scheme from the year 2016-17 till the present date. "Out of the total 27 lakh farmers, only 26,000 farmers have been benefitted from the scheme. The farmers incur losses due to the floods every year. They don't receive any insurance money because the government is giving the profits to the insurance companies," alleged Das.

The president asserted that during the recent floods around 16,424 hectares of agricultural lands were affected. But the farmers have not received any assistance from the government, he pointed out. Further, the AJYCPA appealed to the Agricultural Minister to help the needy farmers as they are in distress.
