GUWAHATI, May 12: With an objective to boost consensus among the masses, three ethnic bodies on Saturday have staged a sit-in-protest in front of the Raj Bhavan to trigger collective resistance to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016.

While participating in the protest, Assam Jatiyatabadi Unnayan Parishad (AJUP) general secretary, Dipak Das said that after capturing power, the BJP-led state regime has been adopting series of anti-people policies in which Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016 is one among these. “OF the controversial legislation is passed in the Lok Sabha, it will extinguish the identity of the Assamese people.”

Attending the demonstration, All Assam Goriya-Moriya Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AAGMYCP) general secretary, Moinul Haque slammed the double-standard allegedly maintained by the Congress party in regards to the Bill. “In this critical juncture, the Congress should have been on the street protesting against the Bill, but they are resorting to double-standard on the issue,” Haque added. Along with the AJUP and the AAGMYCP, the Krishak Shramik unnayan Parishad also joined the sit-in-protest.
