GUWAHATI: Various organizations of the State staged protests here at the Chachal Protest Ground on Tuesday over different individual demands.

Slogans raised by members of the All Assam Matak Yuba-Chatra Sanmilan (AAMYCS), All Assam Safai Karmi/Covid Warriors (Ward boys and Laboratory Technician), and Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabharended the air of the ground.

"The number of reservation for the students of our tribe in comparison to other tribes of Assam is less. Thus we demand 10 reserved seats in different universities, medical colleges, engineering colleges and other technical institutions of the State. We also demand financial assistance to meritorious students and the ones from economically weaker section," stated AAMYCS general secretary Dharani Gohain. He also underlined that the body had a discussion with State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 9, 2020 regarding the formation of an autonomous council. However, till date they have not received any response from him thus they have resorted to stage protest, he added.

They threatened the ruling party that if their demands are not met then they will urge the public not to vote for them in the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Safai Karmi/Covid Warriors (Ward boys and Laboratory technician) secretary Rupam Bharali said that during the COVID pandemic around 5,000 safaikarmis, 1,500 ward boys, 500 laboratory technicians were recruited in different Covid Care Centers, railway stations and Government hospitals. But they were allegedly terminated without giving any notice. Now they are demanding the Government to reinstate them and regularize their jobs under the Health Department.

On the other hand, scores of members from the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMM), Assam State Committee protested by demanding Central OBC status to their community. The NBMM underlined that already the Tripura government has granted Central OBC status to the Bishnupriya Manipuris. Thus they want the State government to grant them the status so that they can be benefited while appearing in Central government jobs and college entrance examinations.
