Outcast is A Disgrace To Transgender Community: All Assam Transgenders’ Association (AATA)

GUWAHATI: Opposing a derogatory film, which derogates the transgender community, the All Assam Transgenders’ Association (AATA) held a press meet on Wednesday against the movie Outcast. Claiming that the film is created by an unregistered organization, the story line portrays the third gender in a bad light and sends a negative vibe to the society.

Swati Bidhan Baruah, founder of the Association speaking to the Sentinel informed that if the government fails to implement the Transgender Policy before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, they will refrain from casting their votes.

“We have over 11 thousand transgender voters in Assam, however, the government is unable to process the exact data. We have taken it among ourselves to release the final voters list very soon. The government needs to understand our sentiment”, Baruah commented.

The AATA founder proclaimed further, ‘‘Third genders from across India have started to contest in elections, but Assam Government is lagging far behind in accepting us with open arms."
