Overwhelming response in opening day of Guwahati International Children Film Festival

GUWAHATI: The first Guwahati International Children Film Festival (GICFF), 2019 started on Saturday at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra at Guwahati. The event is a three day affair from January 19 to 21, 2019 and is organized by Jyoti Chitraban, in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute along with the support from the Government of Assam.

At the opening on the first day, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Media Adevisor to CM Hrishikesh Goswami, Festival Curator Srinivasa Santham, and other dignitaries were present. The opening Film of the event was Halkaa and the child hero of the film, Tathastu was present during the event. Bhanita Das of Village Rockstar fame was also present. Around 50 movies from 23 countries like Israel, Sweden, Canada, Turkey, China, Spain, Italy, Iran, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Germany, UK, etc will be screened during the festival.

Appreciating the initiative taken by GICFF, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, “A festival like this in Guwahati is a good step. As the festival seeks to provide exposure to quality children films from around the world, it will help the younger generation in all spheres. Students will be aware about both national and international thoughts through these movies.”

Pabitra Margherita, Chairman Jyoti Chitraban said, “The GICFF was about 1 crore. After the success of GIFF, we did not anticipate such great response and have been completely taken over by surprise. On the first day itself, more than 5000 students registered. A satellite version will be telecasted in six places.” GICFF is organized to inculcate the understanding of life, cinema and art as a whole into the minds of young children.
