Palace Theme For Shantipur Sluice Gate Durga Puja Committee

GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja fever has gripped Guwahati even as the Viswakarma Puja is still to go. Puja committees in the city, as usual, are busy bees. Thematic puja is not new in Assam. The Shantipur Sluice Gate Durga Puja Committee, which is celebrating 22 years of puja, has royal boats and a palace (rajmahal) as its chosen theme. Through the budget (Rs 18 lakh) puja expenditure they want to portray the grandeur of the kings of Assam. They are also not going to cut cost in security aspects. Besides deployment of volunteers, women police, 30 NCC boys, ladies security and home guards, they are set to install 12 CCTV cameras.

The security incharge of the Committee, Deepmoni Das informed that the artisans have been hired from Kolkata. The grand structure is built wholly by bamboo and almost 80 percent of the construction is complete.
