Panchayat Elections: AGP, BPF to go alone in rural polls

GUWAHATI: It is almost clear now that the AGP and BPF, the alliance partners of the BJP-led Government will contest the ensuing Panchayat polls alone. The Assam State Election Commission will issue notification for the ensuing rural polls shortly. The BPF held an important meeting on Sunday and decided to go it alone in constituencies where it has support bases. There is no Panchayat seat within the BTAD. The rural poll is likely to be held in December this year. With the Lok Sabha poll slated for 2019, this panchayat poll in the State seems to be crucial for all the parties contesting it.
